RORY HIE (IND) FIRST ROUND 69 (-3)
This is a good round for me. I hit the ball very well and could have done better if I had sank more putts. But I’m happy with the way I’m striking the ball.
The highlight of my round came on the 18th hole (played from the back nine) when I hit my third shot over the green but managed to chip in for birdie from about 25 feet.
The rain suspension messed up my momentum because I was three-under before they stopped play and couldn’t get my round going again. I was on the third hole (fairway) after the play suspension.
The greens are holding up and you can hit a lot of shots close to the pin. There’s not much wind so it was pretty much a scoring day.
I went to see Andrew Argus in Malaysia and since then my game has been improving every week and I’m starting to get my confidence back up. He changed my grip and that was the biggest thing for me. My grip was too weak before and he changed it to a more neutral position and I’m starting to hit it better.
I have good memories here from two years ago (2008) when I won here.
THANYAKORN KHRONGPHA (THA) FIRST ROUND 69 (-3)
It was a good round for me and I’m happy with my score. The conditions were tough but I managed to hang in there and maintain my focus.
I don’t know why I play so good in Indonesia but I’m glad that I’m. I hope to play on the Asian Tour one day and follow in the footsteps of Thongchai Jaidee!
CHANG CHI-WEI (TPE) FIRST ROUND 70 (-2)
I had two bogeys on holes 16 and 17 and that was disappointing. I was rushing to finish those holes because of the rain and was punished. I had to sink my putts for par from about six feet of those two holes but failed to remain focus.
Overall, I enjoyed my round out there and hopefully I can do better tomorrow. On the fifth hole, I chipped in from about 100 yards and that was surprising because I had it in my mind that I would make bogey on that hole.
I’m 36 years old this year and turned professional in 2001. I teach golf when I’m not playing and hope to play in more Asian Development Tour tournaments and gain experience. Hopefully one day I will get a chance to play on the Asian Tour.
